Miss World 2011

There are a total of 113 beauty queens from around the world who competed for the coveted crown of Miss World 2011, although originally over 120 delegates were expected to compete but problems with visa acquisitions prevented several candidates from participating.

The main duties of Miss World are to raise money for children health, Aids causes and other important foundations; and the pageant calls their platform efforts “Beauty With a Purpose.” Miss Ghana, Stephanie Adwoa Agyeiwaa Karikari, and Miss Indonesia, Astrid Ellena Indriana Yunadi, were the joint winners of the beauty with a purpose category.

I believe that the next Miss World should be a woman of responsibility and reason… I believe the woman should be committed to the organization and help people in need. Beauty with a heart…

Ivian Sarcos said before winning the Miss World 2011 title. She is a Diplomacy student who stands 1.80 m tall. She was raised by nuns  in a convent in Tachira who gave her the name Sora Ivian. Born July 26, 1989, in Guanare, Portuguesa, Venezuela, Ivian Lunasol Sarcos Colmenares became an orphan at the age of 8 when her parents passed away. Ivian was studying to be a nun but eventually gave up the idea and decided to start her career as a model and went on to become a Miss World winner. Nice!

With this win, Venezuela now holds the record of a country that has the most Miss World title totaling to 6 titles breaking up a tie with India which has 5 titles.

A little bit of history about the current Miss World Crown. It was actually a gift specially made by Queen Elizabeth of England for the Miss World Pageant and is the same crown that is used today.

Last year’s Miss World, Alexandria Mills of the United States, placed the glittering crown on her successor’s head amidst the cheering crowd inside the Earls Court Two auditorium. Ordos in Inner Mongolia, China, will be the host of the Miss World 2012 competition.
